Nariyoshi Shinomiya

Nariyoshi Shinomiya is the President of the National Defense Medical College (NDMC), located in Japan. His specialty includes microbiology & immunology, molecular oncology, diving medicine, and bioethics. He was a member of the Committee for Safe and Secure Science & Technology, Ministry of Education Culture Sports Science and Technology, Japan from 2009 to 2012. He was assigned to Special Allied Member of the Science Council of Japan in 2012 and played a leading role in the Committee for Dual Use Issues in Science and Technology. He also worked for the Center for Research Development Strategy, Japan Science and Technology Agency as a special fellow from 2012 to 2013. He is an advisor for the Responsible Innovation with Conscience and Agility (RInCA) Program that was launched in 2020 in the Research Institute of Science and Technology for Society, Japan Science and Technology Agency. In addition, he is the President of the Japan Human Cell Society and the Vice President of the Japanese Association for Clinical Hyperbaric Oxygen and Diving Medicine. His interests include tropical diseases, measures to combat bioterrorism, and bioethics of dual-use research of concern.
